The reality is your bathroom can be potentially dangerous for people of any age. <\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do to improve the overall safety of your bathroom. Below we outline 5 things you can add to your bathroom to upgrade its safety:<\/p>\n<h2>Install a night light<\/h2>\n<p>As we get older, it&#8217;s only a matter of time before we have to regularly use the washroom at night. It&#8217;s like a right of passage as we age. When we awake in the middle of the night, it&#8217;s common for people to be half awake, a little disoriented, and a little less stable on their feet. Installing a night light in the washroom will make things more visible and help you better see your surroundings. <\/p>\n<h2>Grab bars<\/h2>\n<p>Your bathroom can be a small space to navigate. There can be some narrow areas that require you to get some extra leverage to move around. Grab bars can help in these situations. You can install it in virtually all areas of your bathroom for additional support. You most commonly see them beside the tub or in the shower, and beside the toilet. <\/p>\n<h2>Toilet safety features<\/h2>\n<p>There are several ways you can improve the safety of your toilet. The first is to add a raised seat to make it easier to get on and off. You can also add toilet safety bars on either side to give you more leverage when transitioning on or off. <\/p>\n<h2>Bath mats<\/h2>\n<p>Getting in and out of the bathtub can be a tripping hazard for anyone. The inside of the tub can be very slippery when wet, especially if there is still some soap in the bottom. Installing a bath mat in the tub will create a more reliable and secure surface. <\/p>\n<h2>Carpet tape<\/h2>\n<p>Speaking of mats, if you have a rug in your bathroom, you need to secure it. Loose rugs can lead to slips and falls. They can move when you step on them and the corners can rise, creating a tripping hazard.
